The Americans will split squads throughout the month of May, as Tony plays for USA Blue as they tuneup for the Olympics in August. The Americans were named USOC's Team of the Month following their perfect record at the America's Cup and the win over Croatia.

The Americans upset the reigning World Champions paced by three goals by Azevedo. USA tied the game on the goal of the night as Azevedo whipped home a lefty backhander that left the crowd buzzing to tie the score at 4-4. That was followed by Azevedo drawing a five meter which Ryan Bailey cashed in on and USA was back in front 5-4. The U.S. had trailed 3-1.

After the Aussies drew within 4-3 in the third perido, the Americans built a 5-3 lead on a Jesse Smith goal and Tony tallied one to make it 6-3. The game played at Campolindo High in Morage saw Azevedo make it 1-0 and 2-0 early.

Playing before a packed house in Goleta, the Americans surrendered a three-goal lead to the Aussies. The U.S. led 4-1 after the firsst period, but held to just a 5-4 halftime lead, before the Aussies scored four unanswered to lead 8-6. The U.S. tied it at 9-9 with 5:41 remaining only to watch Australia score one more time with 23 seconds left to put the contest away.

Azevedo scored with two seconds remaining and Team USA scored their biggest win of the Fina World League Finals, defeating Montenegro 7-6. Team USA fought back from a 3-2 deficit at the half and led briefly 4-3 in the third.

Team USA moved onto the championship game, the team's first ever, winning a shootout 5-4 over Australia. Team USA opened up a 5-2 lead at the half, before the Aussies tied it at 5-5 and it ended 7-7 at the end of the fourth. Each team connected on their first three attempts, before Brian Alexander scored and the Aussies did not in the fourth attempt.
